A mile from uptown, a century removed from it

Elizabeth was platted in 1891 around a women's college and built out along a streetcar line that ran east from the square. What that history left behind is unusual for a Sunbelt city: a coherent grid of pre-Depression houses on narrow lots, a genuine park at the middle of it, and a commercial street you can walk to instead of drive to.

The result is a small market — a few thousand households — with outsized demand. Original bungalows trade against sensitively renovated ones, condos along Elizabeth Avenue absorb buyers who want the location without the maintenance, and the medical campuses at the western edge keep a steady professional tenant base in place.
