Elizabeth Station refers to the transit-oriented residential development clustered along the Elizabeth Avenue corridor near the CityLYNX Gold Line streetcar stop, between the Novant Health Presbyterian campus and Central Piedmont Community College. It is the newest housing type in the neighborhood by a wide margin — mid-rise, structured-parking, ground-floor-retail construction that has nothing architecturally in common with the bungalow blocks a few hundred feet east.
The appeal is almost entirely locational. Residents can walk to the hospital, walk to CPCC, board the streetcar toward uptown, and reach the Little Sugar Creek Greenway without crossing a major arterial. For hospital staff working rotating shifts and students on the Central Campus, that combination is difficult to reproduce anywhere else in Charlotte at a comparable rent.
What it is not is a historic district address. The corridor sits outside the locally designated portion of Elizabeth, so exterior work here is not subject to Certificate of Appropriateness review, and construction activity along Elizabeth Avenue has been more or less continuous for a decade. Renters who want quiet, canopy, and porch life should be looking at the interior streets instead; renters who want a five-minute walk to work and a streetcar platform should be looking here.
