It begins at the Kings Drive and Independence Boulevard corridor on uptown's eastern shoulder and runs east through the Elizabeth historic neighborhood to the Briar Creek side, taking in the Cherry area, the Midtown and Charlottetowne edge, Independence Park, and the Novant Health Presbyterian and Atrium Health medical corridors along the way.

That mix is why ZIP-level statistics behave oddly here. A single postal code contains 1920s single-family bungalows, condominium conversions, new apartment buildings on the commercial corridors, a college campus, and two hospitals. What 28204 covers

Mecklenburg County assesses property on a revaluation cycle, and the city and county rates are applied to that assessed value — check the parcel's own record rather than a neighborhood estimate. Older houses here also carry recurring costs a newer suburb does not: canopy work on protected trees, plaster and window repair rather than replacement, knob-and-tube and cast-iron plumbing replacement, and insurance underwriting that asks about roof and electrical age. Getting around

The CityLYNX Gold Line streetcar runs through the ZIP along Elizabeth Avenue and Hawthorne Lane, connecting to the Charlotte Transportation Center and LYNX Blue Line uptown; several bus routes cross it. Uptown is roughly a mile and a quarter, Charlotte Douglas International is a 15–20 minute drive west, and the Little Sugar Creek Greenway provides a continuous north-south walking and cycling route along the western edge. Assignment is set by address, not by ZIP code, and it changes. Elizabeth Traditional Elementary sits inside the neighborhood with its own traditional-program admission rules; Piedmont Open IB Middle and Myers Park High serve parts of the area, and Central Piedmont's main campus is walkable.
